Wiksten Baby + Toddler Harem Pants in Gather Ochre

Despite being a little rusty sewing with jersey, these were a quick make with only a few hiccups—all due to not having sewn with stretch fabric in years! This pattern works equally well with a woven fabric, in fact, that’s what the instructions call for, but we loved the thought of little pants in this design… and decided they would surely be more comfortable when crawling around!

Fabric — 60cm of Gather Organic Jersey in Ochre
Size — 12–18 months (available sizes from 0–3 months to 3 years)
Thread — Gütterman 934
Notions — elastic to fit waist
Alterations — We overlocked the seams instead of doing french seams as the pattern suggested, this was because we used a stretch jersey instead of a woven fabric. This change also allowed us to taper the ankle slightly with no problems getting the cuff over little feet.

This pattern would be a great make for a beginner sewist, the pants are quick to cut and straightforward to sew. There is a great tutorial for lining them on the Wiksten journal—the ankle turn-up would be lovely in a coordinating, or if you’re feeling bold, clashing fabric!
