Basil Bangs x Field Day

We are long time admirers of the iconic Australian lifestyle brand, Basil Bangs, not only because of their beautiful and practical products but also because of their joyful artist collaborations. When the opportunity arose to collaborate on a new artwork for their popular home and beach collections, we were beyond excited to start the design process.

Our bespoke design, Gondwana, was based upon an Australian native theme with a layered dense look with lush, rich tones. With this brief in mind, we drew our attention to the lush rainforests of the Australian eastern coast which inspired us to highlight a unique collection of native foliage and flowers.

Hand painted in watercolour, Louise and Shelley worked collaboratively to bring all the elements together. The hero of our Gondwana artwork is the pinwheel flower of the firewheel tree (Stenocarpus sinuatus) which pops against the shapely foliage and pods of the same tree. The dusky pea flowers are inspired by the beautiful sprawling hardenbergia violacea twisting in and out of the lush arrangement.
